So why do we still call it a discovery call?
Well I'm about to show you why you need to be naming your sales calls. And not only that...
I'll give you some tips on what to name it for the biggest impact.

Really, there's a lot that has to go into naming your calls.
Think about it.
The name that you give to your sales calls is going to have a massive impact on lots of different things:
How you position the call - is it a demonstration or more like a brainstorming call?
How you market the call - what will you say in your call to action? Is that different for cold and warm traffic?
How people perceive the call - will they have their guard up, knowing they're walking into a sales situation? Or are they expecting to be coached on a specific topic?
Who signs up for the call - are they freebie seekers or pre-qualified leads?
You see what I mean?
Ok, so how can you pick an impactful name for your sales call?
Calling it a free strategy session is certainly eye-catching...
But "free" is also a spam trigger and could land you in email purgatory!
So what about a ""complimentary"" strategy?
Oh, how elegant!
Doesn't really roll off the tongue though does it?
Hmmm... So a "no cost" strategy
session might do the trick.
But talk about your double negatives NO and COST both have a negative impact on the old pink and squishy thing between your prospects ears.
Another thing I've seen is the word consultation...
And that may work well in a stuffy, professional atmosphere but for me personally...
It makes me feel like I'll have to learn how to iron a shirt again so I don't show up to this clearly very formal affair looking like...
Well... a millennial who makes their living from a laptop and a smartphone 🤭
So here's my suggestion to you:
Pick something enticing that speaks to your client's ideal outcome.
So a career coach could use: "Career Jump-Start Session"
If fitness is your jam, how about: "Fitness Breakthrough Session"?
For my business coaches - "Client Attraction Strategy Session" could work well
Leadership coach? How about a "Leadership Breakthrough Session"?
Do you help people with relationships? You could offer a "Relationship Revitalisation Session"
I know these aren't the best names in the
world but I'll be honest...
I'm writing this at 11pm after a bottle of Chardonnay so I'm hardly at my best 😜
