Hey ,
I've got a confession to make.
Sometimes, my passion for marketing and copywriting gets the better of me.
I find myself diving into the nitty-gritty details and jargon, leaving people scratching their heads, thinking, "What the f**k is Wilko talking
about?"
Sound familiar?
You're an expert in your field.
You know your stuff inside and out.
But here's the tricky part: Your extensive knowledge might actually be killing your content.
It's called the ‘Curse of Knowledge’.
And it's a sneaky problem that we, experts, tend to fall into.
You see, when you're passionate and knowledgeable about something, you unconsciously assume that everyone else understands it too.
You get technical. You use industry jargon. And you end up losing your audience's
interest.
In other words…
…your expertise kills your content!
But it doesn't have to be this way.
Here's the magic potion to break the ‘Curse of Knowledge’:
First off, you need to ditch the jargon.
Use words and phrases that resonate with your audience.
I like to imagine I’m explaining it to a friend over coffee.
Think about anecdotes and personal experiences you can share that highlight the points your trying to make.
It humanises your content and helps your audience connect with the subject.
And break down complex ideas into easily digestible
bits.
If a ten-year-old can get it, you're on the right track.
Remember, your expertise isn't the problem.
It's how you present it.
Turning your wisdom into engaging, relatable content doesn't make you any less of an expert.
It makes you a great communicator.
So embrace simplicity. Speak to the hearts and minds of your audience, not just to their intellect. And
turn the ‘Curse of Knowledge’ into a blessing.
Wishing you a jargon-free day!
Cheers,
Andrew 'Wilko' Wilkinson
