Hey ,
Ever had an ad, an email, or a social media post make you stop in your tracks?
Maybe it was a video you couldn’t scroll past…
A headline that had you nodding along…
Or an email that made you click “Buy Now” without a second thought.
What’s interesting is, those moments aren’t
random.
In fact, they’re carefully designed by marketers who understand something that’s both simple and powerful.
The best marketing isn’t about selling… it’s about connecting.
And if you’re wondering how to create that kind of connection with your own marketing, here’s my favourite tip:
Start with yourself.
Every day, you’re surrounded by
marketing.
Ads on social media, emails in your inbox, sponsored videos on YouTube… you name it.
And every single one of those is a lesson waiting to be learned if you know what to look for.
Here’s how to do it:
1. Notice what grabs your attention...
When an ad stops you mid-scroll, ask yourself:
Why?
Was it the
image?
The headline?
The way it made you feel?
Here's a good example…
I saw an ad today with a hook: “can we jump in a quick call?”
That may not mean anything to you ...
But to me as an agency owner/freelancer, it immediately caught my attention because it's a huge pain point.
(Clients asking for a “quick call” that turns
into a 90 minute unpaid strategy session)
So it caught my attention and went on to pitch an offer that helps freelance marketers/agency owners build automated businesses.
I didn't buy it because I already have everything I need from Launch You.
But if not, I probably would've bought their course.
2. Pay attention to what makes you curious...
When you feel the urge to click
on something, stop and think...
What was it about this that made me want to learn more?
Sometimes, it’s the promise of solving a problem I care about.
Other times, it’s because the ad feels fun, relatable, or genuinely helpful.
But usually it's because the offer sounds too good not to check it out.
3. Reflect on why you bought (or didn’t
buy)...
After you make a purchase (or choose not to) take a moment to reflect...
Was it the offer?
The message?
The urgency?
The price?
Or did it just “feel right”?
This can tell you a lot about what people need to feel before they’re ready to say yes.
So, why does all this matter ?
Because the more you understand your own reactions, the better you’ll understand your audience.
For example, I used to think great marketing was all about flashy adverts or cool slogans.
But when I started paying attention to what really moved me, I realised something important...
The best marketing doesn’t feel like marketing.
It feels like someone genuinely understands you,
your struggles, and your goals… and is offering a solution that feels natural.
Now, here’s where it gets powerful.
When you observe your own reactions and start applying what you learn, you’ll be able to create content, offers, and experiences that truly connect with people.
You’ll know how to speak to their needs, answer their unspoken questions, and build trust…
...because you’ve experienced it
yourself.
This is how you go from creating “just another ad” to building something meaningful that resonates.
So, next time you’re scrolling through social media or checking your inbox, pay attention to those little moments.
Notice what grabs you.
Think about why it works.
And then, see how you can bring that same feeling to the way you connect through your own marketing.
Because
great marketing isn’t just about selling.
It’s about understanding.
Talk to you again soon,
